Job summary

GAF Energy is hiring an experienced R&D engineer to lead solar laminate development, prototyping, and testing in the lab. You will collaborate with reliability teams, suppliers, and cross-functional groups to push new solar products toward manufacturing.

You should have 5+ years in solar module R&D and a Master’s in a relevant field; Ph.D. is a plus. Expect travel and close coordination with manufacturing and design teams.

• Master’s degree in Physics, Materials Science or Electrical Engineering is required.
• Ph.D. is preferred for advanced research roles.
• 5+ years in lab-based R&D for solar module development and testing.
• Deep knowledge of PV module electrical circuits and materials integration for long-term reliability.
• Familiarity with UL/IEC certification processes and PV failure modes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills; proven innovation track record.

Responsibilities

• Envision, design, and prototype solar laminates/shingles in the lab.
• Lead testing to meet performance goals with reliability teams.
• Develop new materials and designs with suppliers; use software for design acceleration.
• Identify and solve complex problems with rapid iteration and critical thinking.
• Mentor teammates as a solar laminate development expert.
• Collaborate across teams to plan, develop, and launch new solar products.
• Present concepts and results to executives and stakeholders.
