Job summary

Element Biosciences seeks a Senior Software Test Engineer in San Diego to own verification of complex features across instrument software, firmware, hardware, cloud services, and data-analysis interfaces. You will translate requirements into test strategies and execute across multiple domains, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years hands-on software or systems testing.
• Experience with life-science or regulated devices preferred.
• Ability to derive test coverage from requirements and user stories.
• Experience testing interfaces among software, embedded systems, firmware, hardware, cloud services, and data-analysis apps.
• Knowledge of FDA 21 CFR Part 820, IEC 62304, ISO 13485 preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently design, document, and execute verification activities for complex software features and end-to-end workflows.
• Translate requirements, system architecture, and risk controls into test strategies, plans, cases, and reports.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing across software, firmware, hardware, cloud services, and data-analytic interfaces.
• Configure and maintain test environments, including control of software, firmware, hardware, and test-data configurations.
• Isolate and troubleshoot defects using logs, CLI tools, databases, and reproducible test evidence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate coverage and improve end-user experience.
• Create accurate test documentation in line with design-control processes and lifecycle.
• Identify automation opportunities and contribute to maintainable automated tests and tools as products mature.
• Communicate test status and risk to project leads and stakeholders; share knowledge with team.
