Job summary

Onto is seeking an experienced QA/Test Engineer to drive system and requirements-based validation for its Inspection Business Unit solutions. You will collaborate with software, hardware and manufacturing teams to ensure quality across platforms and features.

The role emphasizes automated and manual testing, debugging multi-threaded environments, and contributing to test plan design with strong communication skills. Hybrid Boston area work arrangement is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to understand requirements and design test strategies and plans based on those requirements.
• Proven experience (10+ years) in software testing and/or systems level testing for highly technical applications.
• Experience developing automation frameworks or automated tests and scripting (Python, JavaScript, etc.).
• Experience testing client/server solutions.
• Excellent skillset focused on Windows development, the .NET platform (C#, C++), and relational databases (SQL Server a plus).
• Experience with Agile, Scrum, or Kanban methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality; debugging complex multi-threaded environments.
• Ability to design and execute test strategies and plans based on requirements and functional designs.
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform requirements-based and system level testing across projects and platforms ensuring quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, manufacturing and applications teams to validate software.
• Analyze and verify software requirements for testability, clarity and completeness.
• Develop comprehensive test plans for new features and products.
• Investigate, reproduce, log and escape issues/defects.
• Develop and execute automated and manual tests, regression, functional, and acceptance tests.
• Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure high-quality operation.
• Participate in design and implementation of new features and functionalities.
• Perform design/code reviews for automation scripts and manual test cases; collaborate with engineers.
• Provide technical support and guidance to other team members.
• Stay updated with latest industry trends in software development and hardware-software integration.
