Job summary

AeroVironment (AVAV) in the United States is seeking a Software Systems Engineer (SSE) to blend software development with Linux systems administration and RF integration. The role leads junior developers, supports critical RF systems, and ensures reliability, availability, and security of solutions in mission-focused environments.

You'll work independently and collaboratively, performing modeling, software design, and rapid development in a security-conscious setting.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience applying DevOps concepts to automate tasks and manage infrastructure as code across environments.
• Hands-on experience installing, configuring, securing, deploying, and maintaining complex hardware and software across multiple environments.
• Strong Linux skills on Debian/systemd-based distributions.
• Solid TCP/IP networking knowledge and routing.
• Experience with virtualization and containerization (Docker).
• Excellent documentation and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction to junior developers across multiple projects.
• Reverse engineer existing software for modification and integration of new functionality.
• Develop and maintain complex software in C, C++, Rust, Python, or Bash.
• Create software for Debian-based Linux distributions and automation programs.
• Support rapid development in a Quick Reaction Capability environment.
• Ensure security and reliability of software on air-gapped or sensitive systems.
• Review designs for accuracy, security, and compliance.
