Job summary

Sense in Chicago is seeking a senior software engineering and lab infrastructure expert to lead lab equipment planning, hardware deployment, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will troubleshoot hardware and network issues, manage inventory and SOPs, and drive improvements in lab automation, RFQs, and test environments. Strong communication and stakeholder relations are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of networking experience with troubleshooting tools (nslookup, ping, tracert).
• Proficiency in testing complex systems and understanding Agile/SAFe methodologies.
• Proficient in Windows and Unix/Linux; JIRA and Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead discussions with Development, Systems Engineering, and Product teams to identify lab equipment requirements supporting business objectives.
• Coordinate lab infrastructure planning, hardware implementation, and upcoming program requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot hardware failures, software configuration issues, network connectivity issues, and application-related problems.
• Track, document, and manage issue resolution through JIRA, including root cause analysis.
• Manage software lab operations, including inventory management, equipment tracking, audits, cataloging, repairs, and asset maintenance.
• Conduct periodic health checks of laboratory equipment and resolve identified issues.
• Manage RFQs, Purchase Requisitions, RMAs, Purchase Orders, parts delivery, and returns as required.
• Create and maintain SOPs, test bench documentation, and knowledge-sharing material.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and support to software testing teams and stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to processes, hardware configurations, automation, and lab infrastructure.
• Identify future technology requirements and implement lab upgrade projects to support new testing needs.
• Participate in Lab Management meetings and collaborate with testing teams to identify and resolve product issues.
• Establish strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to service delivery success and customer satisfaction.

Mandatory Skills

• Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years of networking experience with troubleshooting tools such as nslookup, ping, and tracert.
• Proficiency in testing complex systems and understanding Agile/SAFe software development methodologies.
• Intermediate proficiency in Windows, Unix/Linux systems, JIRA, and MS Office Suite (Excel).
• Hands‑on experience in building and maintaining telecommunications equipment and network environments.
• Understanding of inflight connectivity systems including Devices, WAPs, ACPU, and Network Equipment.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with software engineering teams.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer‑focused mindset.
• Knowledge of CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or CCNA‑equivalent networking skills is preferred.
