Position Summary

GEICO’s Site Reliability Engineering team is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to build and lead a new team of engineers passionate about developing engineering solutions—tools, frameworks, and automation in performance, efficiency, and reliability. This newly created organization aims to enable all application teams to deliver enterprise-wide products that are highly performant, efficient, and reliable. Position Description

The Senior Manager will be an engineering leader responsible for guiding members of the engineering staff to deliver high-quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment. The ideal candidate will possess broad and deep technical knowledge to improve application performance, capacity benchmarking, availability, reliability, cloud architecture, and operational problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with application teams to identify pain points related to performance, efficiency, and reliability, and develop sustainable strategies to address these issues.
• Partner with application owners to develop and communicate a vision for delivering quality products faster.
• Own the end-to-end delivery of team strategy and execution.
• Develop and motivate teams to solve complex problems, advocating for open-source solutions.
• Maintain technical hands-on involvement in coding and building highly available systems.
• Build and mentor a new team of software engineers.
• Drive solutions aligned with long-term goals while efficiently addressing high-priority technical debts.
• Lead in Site Reliability Engineering, operational excellence, and DevOps principles.
• Share best practices and improve processes across teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Software Engineering Manager with strong SRE and DevOps understanding.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, or Go; experience with open-source software is a plus.
• Experience managing infrastructure via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Strong knowledge of Cloud Architecture, Performance Benchmarking, Capacity Planning, and Reliability tools.
• Expertise in Container Orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), container runtimes, and OS optimization.
• Experience with observability platforms, application monitoring, and performance analysis.
• Experience leading and growing technical teams and leaders.
• Deep understanding of data structures and algorithms.

Experience

• Minimum 6 years of coding experience.
• At least 5 years developing tooling and engineering solutions in mission-critical environments.
• Over 5 years supervising technical personnel.
• Experience with at least one public cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary range: $120,000 - $261,500. Final offers depend on multiple factors including experience, education, location, and market conditions.
