We are seeking an expert Python developer to work within the Video Delivery and Experience squad which specializes in multiCDN configuration, orchestration, traffic steering, and observability. The ideal candidate will have a strong proficiency in modern Python concepts, is used to thinking in terms of distributed systems and async processing, is familiar with operating in popular clouds, and approaches problems in a collaborative manner. Exposure to the CDN space or streaming video is a huge plus! The work will be towards Paramount’s next generation of multi-CDN orchestration products to ensure we can meet the demand of 100’s of live events per week across Paramount businesses while also supporting and iterating on our larger VOD brands like Paramount+ and marquee brands like CBS News and CBS Sports!

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain high-quality, modern, modular, annotated, Python code

Design and implement APIs to integrate and propagate data across remote systems, managing both full and partial failures gracefully

Write and review PRs, ensuring code quality and adherence to best practices like testing, typing/annotations, and docs.

Chip in to building observable systems, incorporating effective logging, monitoring, and alerting practices.

Required Technical Skills

Expertise in writing maintainable, modular, modern Python code.

Solid understanding of async Python patterns, including when to leverage asyncio vs. threading vs. multiprocessing. Celery and async job runner knowledge is a plus.

Familiarity with Python annotations and type hints, mutability, and laying out Python modules in a larger app.

Ability to write and review unit tests (pytest).

Understand fundamental development constructs like locking, mutability, and scoping.

Proficient in reading and writing SQL queries.

Understand the basics of TCP/IP networking, DNS, http requests, and basic networking concepts (e.g., what subnets are, OSI layers).

Tooling & Ecosystem:

Experience with Docker and, preferably, Kubernetes.

Familiarity with working within cloud providers (AWS, GCP, OCI)

Exposure to building REST APIs. We use FastAPI with Celery for distributed task processing.

Additional Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Go or Rust.

Knowledge of CDN or MultiCDN architectures.

Concepts of ABR streaming.

Previous exposure to building observable systems (log aggregation, metrics, ETL processes).

Experience in API orchestration within multiCDN environments.

Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code toolingExperience working with distributed systems and designing fault-tolerant architectures.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $124,000.00 - 170,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.This position is bonus eligible.
