Job summary

System One seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, deploy, and maintain mission-critical enterprise applications in an onsite Gaithersburg, MD environment. The role emphasizes hands-on development, secure coding, and collaboration within an Agile engineering team.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of software development experience in Java, C#, Python, or C++, with RESTful API design, cloud and container proficiency, and a strong understanding of DevSecOps practices.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret/SCI clearance
• Ability to complete a polygraph examination
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 8–12 years of experience, or Master's with 6–10 years
• Eight+ years of professional software development experience
• Proficiency in at least one OO language (Java, C#, Python, or C++)
• Experience with web-based applications or enterprise software
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases
• Strong OO design principles and patterns
• Experience with Git or similar VCS
• Experience in Agile Scrum or SAFe environments
• Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise software applications
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code with secure coding practices
• Design and implement RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed solutions
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives)
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, DevSecOps, and teams to deliver high-quality software
• Develop automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
• Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers
• Troubleshoot complex issues and perform root cause analysis
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments with DevSecOps
• Optimize performance, scalability, reliability, and security
• Contribute to architecture discussions and modernization plans
• Support production deployments and issue resolution
