Job summary

Tem-Energy is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Pricing to build and scale our pricing engine at the heart of RED, our modern utility product. You will design and ship the Pricing API, ensure fast, accurate quotes, and explain pricing decisions to stakeholders with a focus on reliability and speed.

The role blends backend engineering with a quant-like flavour, using Python, FastAPI, and AWS/serverless patterns to price real energy contracts for businesses and generators.

Qualifications

• Production backend Python: you have shipped and run an API in production and been on the hook when it broke.
• Comfortable with FastAPI and SQL, and with data- and analytics-heavy systems where the correctness of numbers matters.
• Product engineering nous: you ask what the price is for and who reads it, not just how to compute it.
• You build with agents: Claude or similar is part of your daily workflow for writing, testing and reviewing code.
• You can own a project end to end - scoping, delivery, quality - with a tech lead as a sounding board rather than a supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship core slices of the Pricing API from design to production.
• Consolidate pricing logic into a single service with a clean boundary.
• Build detection and alerting to catch bad or slow prices before customers.
• Provide self-serve pricing explanations to the commercial team.
• Make pricing faster for every customer quote and maintain reliability.
