Job summary

Helion, based in Everett, WA, seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Plant Control team. You will design, build, and scale software that operates fusion generators and the Orion power plant.

This role spans control systems, diagnostics, data infrastructure, operator interfaces, and integration across multiple engineering disciplines. You will own software interfaces with sensors, controllers, and visualization tools, ensuring real-time performance and robust deployment, while collaborating

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• End-to-end ownership of complex software projects.
• Experience interfacing software with hardware, sensors, control systems, or real-world equipment.
• Comfortable working in Linux environments.
• Experience with testing, version control, debugging, and deployment practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain software for plant control, diagnostics, automation, and operator workflows.
• Own interfaces connecting sensors, actuators, controllers, databases, and visualization tools.
• Develop reliable tools for monitoring machine health, performance, testing, and operations.
• Create GUIs for engineers, operators, and scientists working with fusion systems.
• Architect software to support real-time control, data acquisition, and coordination.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Firmware, Mechanical, IT, Operations, and Science teams to integrate software with hardware.
