Job summary

Helion, based in Everett, WA, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Plant Control team to design, build, and scale software that operates fusion generators and the Orion plant. You will work across control systems, diagnostics, data infrastructure, and operator interfaces, partnering with engineering and science teams to turn experimental systems into reliable power plant software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• End-to-end ownership of complex software projects.
• Experience with systems programming languages (C++/Rust) and Python.
• Experience interfacing software with hardware, sensors, or real-world systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain software for plant control, diagnostics, automation, and operator workflows.
• Own interfaces connecting sensors, actuators, controllers, databases, and visualization tools.
• Build tools for monitoring machine health, performance, tests, and operations.
• Create GUIs for engineers, operators, and scientists working with fusion systems.
• Architect software supporting real-time control, data acquisition, and coordination.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Firmware, Mechanical, IT, Operations, and Science teams.
• Improve reliability and scalability of internal control and diagnostic platforms.
• Introduce new tools/frameworks to accelerate development.
• Apply first-principles thinking to ambiguous technical problems.
