Job summary

BizFirst is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Maritime Optimization. You will develop maritime route optimization, vessel performance modeling, and voyage analysis capabilities for U.S. Government and defense customers.

This hands-on role involves refining optimization algorithms, translating vessel models into software, and building simulation tools that yield explainable route recommendations. You will work across high- and low-level languages (Rust and Python) and contribute to both

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with Python and/or a compiled language such as Rust, C++, C, or similar.
• Ability to translate domain or mathematical concepts into maintainable, testable software.
• Comfort working with U.S. Government/DoD customers; previous defense experience not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop maritime voyage optimization and route evaluation capabilities.
• Model vessel performance and fuel consumption across operating conditions.
• Account for voyage constraints, transit time, fuel efficiency, and operational considerations in route recommendations.
• Improve optimization algorithms and the software that supports them.
• Build simulation and evaluation capabilities to understand optimizer behavior and route quality.
• Produce clear, explainable results for users evaluating optimization recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineers and domain specialists to translate real-world problems into software.
