Job summary

McGraw Hill in Columbus, OH is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for our Learning Tools team. You will design, build, and lead delivery of services used in Higher Ed, across frontend, backend, and infrastructure, with a focus on scalability and accessibility.

You will work in a hybrid environment with remote options, collaborating with product managers to define requirements, implement CI/CD, and mentor junior engineers while keeping customer empathy at the forefront.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of software development experience.
• Experience with Angular frontend.
• Hands-on full-stack development across frontend, backend, databases, and infra.
• Strong understanding of design patterns and architectural principles.
• Strong understanding of Accessibility (A11y) guidelines.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, efficient, and maintainable software solutions across the frontend, backend/API, database, and infrastructure layers.
• Lead technical projects and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to define requirements.
• Implement best practices in coding, testing, and deployment.
• Contribute to technical documentation and support the testing process.
• Promote engineering best practices for quality, stability, performance, resiliency, and maintainability.
• Mentor junior team members and share knowledge with other teams.
• Champion the customer’s voice and ensure products are built with customer empathy.
