Job summary

Abbott Laboratories in La Jolla is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to lead design, development, and testing of software for Abbott Cancer Diagnostics. You will mentor junior teammates, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive architectural decisions in a cross-functional setting.

The role requires strong OO programming, RESTful services, and cloud experience (Azure/AWS). Familiarity with databases (PostgreSQL/SQL Server) and ORM frameworks is needed. Occasional night/weekend shifts may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or Engineering; or High School Diploma/General Education Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
• Understanding of software development design and development, and domain-specific skills.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming and RESTful web services.
• Experience with cloud-based frameworks (Azure/AWS).
• Proficiency with SQL, Postgres/SQL Server, and ORM technologies.
• Experience with Agile development tools (JIRA, Confluence).
• Proficiency in C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, SQL, PL/SQL, .NET, GWT.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and testing of software applications for Abbott Cancer Diagnostics.
• Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance.
• Troubleshoot issues, debug, and propose solutions with minimal oversight.
• Communicate project plans and status updates to stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to design controls and quality management practices.
