Job summary

SimSpace is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Network Simulation, to lead the development of an eBPF-based kernel-level internet simulation platform. The role focuses on architecture, real-world routing fidelity, and end-to-end control-plane integration across multi-tenant cyber ranges.

You will mentor engineers and partner with Principal Engineers to deliver production-grade simulation capabilities that can scale across teams and deployments.

Qualifications

• Experience building SDN controllers or control planes with OpenFlow, OVS, or equivalent interfaces.
• Deep expertise in Linux kernel networking and eBPF program development, including XDP, TC hooks, and BPF maps.
• Strong systems programming skills in C or Rust for eBPF development and Go or Python for control-plane tooling.
• Solid understanding of real-world internet routing (BGP, ASN topology, CIDR) for accurate topology modeling.
• Experience designing systems with clear control plane and data plane separation and intermittent connectivity handling.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture of the eBPF-based routing simulation layer, including XDP and TC hook design, BPF map structure, and ICMP behavior.
• Design and build the control-plane topology database and the data pipeline transforming topology data for agents.
• Architect the in-range proxy agent bridging control plane to cyber ranges, handling DNS delegation and traffic forwarding.
• Define interface contracts between control plane and in-range agents, including topology updates and graceful degradation.
• Serve as technical lead, guiding architecture, design reviews, and maintaining engineering quality across the team.
• Mentor engineers on systems design, kernel-level debugging, and engineering rigor.
