Job summary

Nautilus Biotechnology in San Carlos, CA seeks a Senior Software Engineer II to design and deliver software that orchestrates instrument hardware, monitors data quality, and verifies optics and fluidics performance. You’ll partner with hardware, bioinformatics, and biology teams to translate customer needs into reliable software solutions.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional experience in a high-performing software engineering organization.
• Expertise with Python and experience with C++.
• Experience building software that reliably interfaces with hardware.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, builds, and artifact management.
• Skills in data analysis to drive technical decisions.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Care about full lifecycle: design, testing, observability, maintainability.
• Eagerness to learn new domains and technologies.
• Experience with optical systems, especially TDI cameras and hardware-controlled autofocus.
• Experience in Image Processing / Computer Vision algorithms.
• Built hardware test software or contributed software to a manufacturing line.
• Experience in biotech and/or startups.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver capabilities within the Instrument Software stack, including hardware orchestration and telemetry warehousing.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and scientists to measure and validate performance during bring-up and post-release.
• Drive cross-functional decisions using analysis of multivariate sensor telemetry and quality data.
• Develop tools for rapid diagnosis and resolution of instrument issues with Operations and Technical Support.
• Engage with bioinformaticians, biologists, and product teams to understand how data informs customer goals.
• Lead with ownership: influence design, architecture decisions, and code quality; mentor peers.
• Join a tight-knit team solving meaningful problems with curiosity and diligence.
