This is a remote position.

Role

Crisis Text Line's software engineers develop the next-generation data platform that changes how millions of humans connect with volunteer crisis counselors, our clinical staff and the interaction with one another. Our platform needs to handle information at a massive scale and extend well beyond SMS as a channel. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile.

As a software engineer, you will work on projects critical to Crisis Text Line's needs as you and the mental health space grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities, and be enthusiastic about taking on new problems across the full stack as we continue to push our technology forward.

Responsibilities

1. Product Delivery and Enhancement: Help set the tone of our product delivery streams to deliver value to our Affiliates in a timely manner. Weigh in on the trade-offs between technical purity and pragmatic delivery.
2. Technical Strategy and Implementation: Contribute to discussions regarding technical strategy and participate in the implementation and rollout of products and frameworks that help implement those strategies.
3. Cross functional and team collaboration: Work across functions of Crisis Text Line, helping drive understanding.
4. Continuous Improvement: Introduce and advocate for new tools, technologies, and processes to streamline and improve our ability to deliver high quality software.
5. DevOps Integration: Participate in initiatives to integrate processes into build pipelines, enabling continuous testing and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
6. Customer Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to help ensure business continuity for our Affiliates.

Qualifications:

1. 6+ years of experience programming in a high-level language.
2. 4+ years of experience in full stack development.
3. Experience building front-end web applications with JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
4. Experience working with relational databases and GraphQL APIs.
5. Experience working with telemetry tools such as Datadog or Grafana is a plus.
6. Experience working with Terraform is a plus.
7. Experience working within cloud environments (we use AWS).
8. Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and software design.
9. Experience building out scalable SaaS solutions.
10. Strong problem solving skills, ability to communicate analysis and reasoning clearly.

Reliable High-Speed Internet Required: Must have a stable high-speed internet connection to support seamless remote collaboration, virtual meetings, online job tasks, etc.

The full salary range for this position, across all United States geographies, is $115,192 to $158,000 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience; during the interview process, candidates will learn the starting salary range applicable for their location. We pay competitively in the tech-forward nonprofit space and offer a robust benefits package.
