Job summary

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company focused on building the Waymo Driver to improve mobility and reduce traffic deaths. As a Software Engineer, you will solve ill-defined problems at the intersection of statistics, ML, and scalable systems engineering, developing quantitative models and proving their correctness and efficiency.

You will tackle ambiguous problems, build automation for evaluation infrastructure, and collaborate across teams to deliver evaluation products and support

Qualifications

• BS in Math, Physics, or another quantitative field.
• Experience implementing statistical and ML algorithms for large datasets.
• Experience adapting techniques from papers to applied problems.
• 3-5 years of experience with navigating and modifying a large code base (C++, Python, SQL).
• Writing, reviewing, and merging code following industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Tackle ill-defined, ambiguous problems and reduce complex systems into tractable quantitative models.
• Develop statistical techniques that improve evaluation pipelines.
• Design and build automation to enhance evaluation infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, product managers, and leadership to deliver evaluation products.
• Champion code health and maintainability in a large code base.
