Job summary

Waymo LLC is seeking a Software Engineer to solve ill-defined problems at the intersection of statistics, ML, and scalable systems engineering. You will develop models to address evaluation challenges and prove their correctness.

You will build automation to scale evaluation infrastructure, collaborate across teams, and uphold code health in a large code base. A BS in a quantitative field and 3–5 years of experience with C++, Python, and SQL are typical requirements.

Qualifications

• BS in Math, Physics, or another quantitative field.
• Fluency in statistical, ML, and mathematical algorithms for large datasets.
• Experience adapting techniques from research papers to applied problems.
• Strong self-motivation and comfort with ambiguity in complex systems and open-ended problems.
• 3–5 years of experience with C++, Python, and SQL; building data pipelines and performing statistical analyses.

Responsibilities

• Tackle ill-defined problems and reduce complex systems into tractable quantitative models.
• Develop statistical techniques to improve evaluation signals and reduce resource use.
• Design and build automation to scale evaluation infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, product managers, and leadership to deliver evaluation products.
