Job summary

eNGINE is seeking a Sr Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of our cloud-native SaaS platform in Pittsburgh. You will design architecture, write production code, and mentor the engineering team as we modernize from monoliths to microservices and micro frontends.

The role is hands-on, split roughly 50/50 between frontend and backend work, with a strong emphasis on Java API design, cloud services, and data pipelines.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Define Azure-first, API-driven architecture standards for multi-tenant SaaS applications.
• Design and build APIs and microservices on AKS and Azure Functions.
• Build data pipelines using Snowflake and Azure data services, including dbt ingestion/transformation.
• Set standards for tenant isolation, observability, and cost governance.
• Define SLIs/SLOs and contribute to incident response and postmortems.
• Collaborate with Product, QE, SRE, Security, and Compliance teams; present architecture trade-offs.
• Guide the team through moving from monoliths to microservices and micro frontends.

About the Role:

eNGINE is hiring a Sr Software Engineer to help lead the technical direction of our cloud-native SaaS platform. We're building secure, multi-tenant solutions on Azure and Snowflake, and this role sits at the center of that work — defining architecture, writing production code, and guiding the broader engineering team as we modernize away from older monolithic patterns.

This is a hands‑on role first and foremost. You'll spend the majority of your time coding, prototyping, and hardening solutions across the full stack — not just setting direction from the sidelines.

What You'll Do:

• Define Azure-first, API-driven architecture standards for our multi-tenant SaaS applications
• Design and build APIs and microservices running on AKS and Azure Functions
• Build data pipelines using Snowflake and Azure data services, including ingestion and transformation work with dbt
• Set standards around tenant isolation, observability, and cost governance
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, and help lead incident response and postmortem practices
• Partner with Product, QE, SRE, Security, and Compliance teams, and present architecture decisions and trade-offs to stakeholders
• Guide the broader team through the shift from monoliths to microservices and micro frontends

What we're looking for:

• Strong, hands‑on development experience — this role is genuinely 50/50 front‑end and back‑end, not lopsided in either direction
• Solid back‑end experience in Java, with a real understanding of API design and distributed systems
• Hands‑on experience with micro frontend architectures (module federation or similar)
• Comfort working across cloud‑native Azure services (AKS, Azure Functions, API Management, Event Hubs, Key Vault, and similar)
• Experience with CI/CD through Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
• Willingness to write and own your own tests — deep testing expertise isn't required, but a willingness to do it is
• Some background working with data is a strong plus, given the team's focus
