Job summary

Instacart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Core Experience team. This role focuses on designing, building, and scaling software across web and mobile platforms.

You will work on data-driven features, optimize queries, and lead cross-functional projects; remote-friendly with reporting to San Francisco headquarters and flexibility to work from anywhere in the continental US.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field (or foreign equivalent).
• 5 years of experience in the job offered or related.
• 5 years of experience with Java, Ruby, Python, or similar languages.
• 5 years of experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, or similar data management systems.
• 5 years of experience with API query technologies such as GraphQL.
• 2 years of experience with machine learning model development and iteration.
• 2 years of experience with client/server architectures and application architectures.
• 2 years of experience working with large codebases on cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and implement software solutions to optimize and scale the Instacart platform and related technologies as part of the Core Experience team.
• Develop highly scalable software using innovative computer science and software engineering principles while ensuring proper protocols are in place to rapidly roll out upgrades and new features.
• Analyze and optimize expensive SQL queries.
• Enable sophisticated, data-driven features that adapt to customer shopping behavior.
• Lead strategic planning and execution of development projects, from inception to deployment and maintenance.
• Implement high quality solutions to create engaging and straightforward shopping experiences, focusing on everything from the user interface to the underlying systems supporting web and mobile platforms.
• Executing ongoing testing and analysis of current systems, including independent performance analysis, diagnosis, and troubleshooting; determining design solutions to problematic programming.
• Other duties as assigned.
