Job summary

Instacart is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Core Experience to design, build, and scale software across web and mobile platforms. The role emphasizes data-driven features, performance analysis, and end-to-end project leadership.

Remote-first with Flex First policy; base pay is regionally adjusted with equity grants and annual refresh awards. Candidates may work from anywhere in the continental US, with HQ in San Francisco.

Qualifications

• BS degree in CS or related field.
• 5+ years in software development with listed languages.
• 5+ years with databases (SQL/NoSQL) and API tech (GraphQL).
• 2+ years ML modeling and iteration.
• 2+ years client/server and large codebases on cross-functional teams.

Overview

Maplebear Inc. D/B/A Instacart in San Francisco, CA seeks Senior Software Engineer, Core Experience (Multiple Openings). Employee may be stationed anywhere in the continental United States but will report directly to Instacart headquarters in San Francisco, CA.

About the Job

Design, build, and implement software solutions to optimize and scale the Instacart platform and related technologies as part of the Core Experience team.

Duties include:

• Developing highly scalable software using innovative computer science and software engineering principles while ensuring proper protocols are in place to rapidly roll out upgrades and new features;
• Analyzing and optimizing expensive SQL queries;
• Enabling sophisticated, data-driven features that adapt to customer shopping behavior;
• Leading strategic planning and execution of development projects, from inception to deployment and maintenance;
• Implementing high quality solutions to create engaging and straightforward shopping experiences, focusing on everything from the user interface to the underlying systems supporting web and mobile platforms;
• Executing ongoing testing and analysis of current systems, including independent performance analysis, diagnosis, and troubleshooting; determining design solutions to problematic programming;
• Other duties as assigned.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field (or foreign equivalent).
• 5 years of experience in the job offered or related.
• 5 years of experience working with Java, Ruby, Python, or similar programming languages;
• 5 years of experience working with MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, or similar data management systems;
• 5 years of experience working with API query technologies, such as GraphQL;
• 2 years of experience working with machine learning model development and iteration;
• 2 years of experience working with client/server architectures and application architectures;
• 2 years of experience working with large codebases on cross-functional teams.

• CA, NY, CT, NJ: $214,000—$221,000 USD
• WA: $214,000—$221,000 USD
• OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI: $214,000—$221,000 USD
• All other states: $214,000—$221,000 USD
