Job summary

Thales in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead security‑critical software architectures for law enforcement products. This hands‑on role combines development with ownership of reusable baseline solutions and architectural governance to drive scalable, compliant systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
• 8–12 years of progressively responsible software engineering experience.
• Expert-level object-oriented and service-oriented design with Java/Angular/React.
• Advanced scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash).
• Hands-on deployment, integration and configuration in on-prem and cloud (AWS/Azure).
• Experience with IaC and tools like Terraform, Ansible, Helm.
• Technical leadership for multi-component systems and software integration.
• Experience with version control workflows (Git/Bitbucket) and release processes.
• Deep expertise in secure software design, authentication/authorization, and data protection.
• Strong knowledge of PKI and secure system design.
• Strong communication, leadership, and architectural review skills.
• Knowledge of SQL Server and MySQL performance tuning.
• Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
• Experience designing scalable, resilient web APIs.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to define, design, and evolve complex software solutions for law enforcement products.
• Lead full software development lifecycle at systems/architecture level for maintainability and reuse.
• Deploy, configure, and validate core products in cloud environments.
• Define engineering standards, secure coding practices, and design patterns.
• Resolve high-impact technical issues focusing on performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and drive adoption to improve security and efficiency.
• Translate business and regulatory requirements into coherent architectures and implementation strategies.
• Lead architecture and code reviews with the technical board.
• Create and maintain architecture descriptions, reference designs, and technical standards.
• Work hands-on while guiding teams and contributing to sales or bid activities.
