Job summary

MITRE seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate mission-focused software and data platforms. You’ll work across cloud infrastructure, software, and data engineering with a focus on Python, AWS, and DevSecOps practices to deliver impactful solutions.

You’ll contribute to architecture, deliver features, and support both sustained programs and urgent enablement tasks, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams while adhering to strict security requirements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's; or a PhD with relevant experience.
• Entrepreneurial and innovative spirit and curiosity to push software boundaries.
• Strong Python development experience with modern engineering practices.
• Experience building distributed systems in AWS or multi-cloud environments.
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience implementing DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and data pipelines.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Experience with Linux and Infra as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience with modern web technologies (React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS).
• Ability to work in Agile environments with strong documentation practices.
• Eligibility to access classified environments as needed.
• Must be eligible for Secret U.S. Government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver modern software capabilities with secure coding, reviews, testing, and maintainable design.
• Collaborate with UX, Architecture, Data, Security, and Operations to define strategy and roadmaps.
• Champion cloud-native, event-driven architectures and microservices where appropriate across AWS/Azure.
• Design and integrate backend services and RESTful APIs for reliable data flows.
• Build and operate data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and analytics-ready data products.
• Develop and optimize data models and SQL/database access patterns.
• Implement containerized deployments with Docker/Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage Linux environments with Terraform/Ansible for reproducible deployments.
• Lead architecture reviews, incident response, and observability integration (e.g., Splunk).
• Mentor engineers and raise standards through reviews and design sessions.
