Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement backend compute services for ARM64 and x86_64 across the Akamai Connected Cloud. You will work with QEMU, Linux and hardware teams to scale multi-architecture compute, APIs, and orchestration features.

You will contribute to production support, optimize performance, and collaborate across disciplines to resolve low-level compute bottlenecks. A strong foundation in SDLC and modern languages is required for success.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience with full software development lifecycle including reviews, releases and support.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, C/C++, or Rust.
• Experience with cloud compute virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU), container runtimes, Linux system APIs, or hypervisor integration.
• Experience with web applications, microservices, RESTful APIs, and database design patterns.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting across distributed Linux systems and databases.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend compute services and APIs for ARM64 and x86_64 instance management using Python, Go, or compiled systems languages.
• Expand underlying platform functionality, resource orchestration tools, and APIs for cloud compute provisioning.
• Contribute to enhanced production support and resolution of complex issues affecting low-level compute systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ARM server hardware and address performance bottlenecks.
• Improve compute platform performance, feature sets, multi-core scalability, and service reliability.
