Job summary

H&R Block, Inc. in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help modernize our software architecture.

You’ll design, develop, and maintain software components supporting business applications, lead day-to-day tasks, and mentor teammates in the latest technologies. Requirements include 5+ years building web apps on the Microsoft stack, strong experience with Azure, HTML/JavaScript, C#, and Angular.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building web-based applications using Microsoft technology stack.
• 3 years of experience developing applications with Microsoft Azure cloud.
• 3 years of developing web-based interfaces using HTML and JavaScript.
• 3 years of experience with MS SQL and C# development.
• Experience building applications using Angular.
• Knowledge of Terraform Enterprise environments.
• Experience with Scrum methodology and agile practices.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain new product features across the Microsoft stack.
• Create and execute unit tests, address defects.
• Collaborate with QA, UX, and other teams to clarify requirements.
• Assist in planning and implementing strategic product direction.
• Design features for scalability, usability and performance.
• Lead design reviews and code reviews for enhancements.
• Translate complex requirements into technical specs and PRDs.

About the Role

We are searching for a Senior Software Engineer to help us modernize our software architecture. When you join us, you’ll use your technical expertise to design, develop, and maintain software components and products that support H&R Block business applications and transform our technology. You’ll serve as the lead role for day-to-day functional tasks in the team, developer support, and maintaining the development environment. Ready to innovate and solve problems in new ways? Join us.

• Use tools, languages, coding standards, and best practices to develop new product features and maintain year over year product functionality and enhancements
• Create and execute unit tests and addresses defects
• Work closely with Quality Assurance, User Experience, and other related teams to ensure consistent understanding of requirements and approach
• Assist in planning and implementation of a strategic direction for the product
• Identify product design features to support scalability, usability, and better performance
• Assist and drive technical design and code reviews for all new enhancements and maintenance work delivered by the development team
• Understand complex business and functional requirements and produce technical specifications and product requirements
• Mentor and coach other team members on the latest technological advances within the current technology used and establish consistent best practices

Required Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

Work Experience:

• At least 5 years of experience in building web-based applications using Microsoft technology stack
• Expert/strong experience (3 years) in developing applications with Microsoft Azure cloud
• Expert/strong experience (3 years) in developing web-based interfaces using HTML and Java Script Library
• Expert (3 years) in developing MS SQL based applications and C#
• Experience in building applications using Angular
• Knowledge in building environments using TFE
• Experience with scrum methodology
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
• Experience with Azure DevOps platform or Github for Source code, boards and CI/CD pipelines
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
