Job summary

Boom is hiring a Software Engineer in Austin, TX. The role emphasizes owning product in production, collaborating with leadership, and shaping the engineering culture to ship real-valued features for renters and property managers.

You'll work across BoomScreen, BoomReport, BoomCRM, and AI-driven agent features, with a path to grow from mid to senior levels as the company scales its platform and B2B/B2C offerings.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional web development experience.
• Strong backend development skills across the stack.
• Experience with Ruby, or a similar backend language; Ruby is primary.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, OAuth, webhooks, rate limits, idempotency.
• Ownership of services in production with observability and on-call experience.
• Familiarity with AI coding agents and tools like Claude Code.
• Clear communication across teams and ability to work in a fast-moving startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain user-facing products and backend systems powering the platform.
• Evolve core backend architecture with a focus on scalability and performance.
• Own services in production including observability and on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and leadership to align solutions with business needs.
• Drive engineering practice through code reviews, testing, and documentation.
