Owner.com seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to own critical backend systems in a remote-first setup. You will work with TypeScript/Node.js, Mongo, and scalable architectures to drive product outcomes for US and international customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production.
• Strong experience with TypeScript and backend technologies (Node.js, databases, distributed systems).
• Proven ownership of systems running at scale with reliability and performance.
• Product-oriented engineering mindset and ownership.
• Experience collaborating with Product and Design partners.
• Strong communication and proactive problem solving.
• Willingness to learn and stay curious.
• Nice to have: e-commerce or large-scale consumer platforms.

• Build new products and features from 0 to 1.
• Own projects from conception to shipping with modular, maintainable code.

Why we’re looking for you

We are looking for a mission-driven Senior Backend Engineer who is passionate about building reliable, high-impact systems and takes pride in owning complex problems end to end.

This role is ideal for an engineer who wants to be a technical leader on business-critical backend systems - someone who understands how product strategy, data, and infrastructure come together to drive real customer outcomes at scale.

This role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada. For San Francisco-based candidates - we also have a new HQ in the Presidio for optional in-person collaboration.

The impact you’ll have

• Build new products and features 0 to 1
• Take ownership of projects from conception all the way to shipping, ensuring modular, maintainable, and high-quality code
• Deliver value to our end users across our entire system while considering performance, scale, security, and maintainability
• Shape our product direction by talking to users and collaborating with other teammates in feature brainstorms/roadmap planning
• Provide thoughtful code reviews and technical guidance to peers, helping to improve overall team quality
• Help us build a great team — interview candidates, refer great engineers, etc.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production
• Strong experience with TypeScript and backend technologies (Node.js, databases, distributed systems)
• Demonstrated ownership of systems running at scale, with an emphasis on reliability and performance
• A product-oriented engineering mindset — you understand the \"why\" behind what you're building
• Experience collaborating closely with Product and Design partners
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
• A sense of ownership, curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning

Nice to have experience in one or more of the following

• E-commerce or consumer platforms
• Loyalty or rewards programs
• Marketing or lifecycle systems
• Large-scale, high-traffic consumer systems

Compensation And Benefits

• The estimated starting base salary range for this role is $190K-220K depending on level, location and experience, plus a generous pre-IPO equity package
