Job summary

Owner is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own and evolve critical backend systems in a 100% remote role that can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada. You will drive architecture, reliability, and performance for scalable services and collaborate with product and design teams to deliver customer value at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production.
• Strong experience with TypeScript and backend technologies (Node.js, databases, distributed systems)
• Demonstrated ownership of systems running at scale, with an emphasis on reliability and performance
• A product-oriented engineering mindset — you understand the 'why' behind what you're building
• Experience collaborating closely with Product and Design partners
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
• A sense of ownership, curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning

We are looking for a mission-driven Senior Backend Engineer who is passionate about building reliable, high-impact systems and takes pride in owning complex problems end to end.

This role is ideal for an engineer who wants to be a technical leader on business-critical backend systems - someone who understands how product strategy, data, and infrastructure come together to drive real customer outcomes at scale.

This role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada. For San Francisco-based candidates - we also have a new HQ in the Presidio for optional in-person collaboration.

Compensation and benefits

• The estimated starting base salary range for this role is $190K-220K depending on level, location and experience, plus a generous pre-IPO equity package
