Job summary

VAST Data in RTP, North Carolina is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build authentication and authorization services for a large-scale distributed storage system. You will tackle critical path decisions, balancing latency, correctness, and scalability while integrating with external AAA services.

This role uses modern C/C++ on Linux, where you will own features end-to-end and address production challenges that arise at scale, including observability, performance, and reliability

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering experience with modern C/C++.
• Experience building production systems in distributed storage/compute.
• Deep understanding of concurrency, synchronization and long-running services.
• Ability to own features end-to-end from design to production support.
• Comfortable debugging production issues with traces, metrics, and logs.
• Experience operating near OS, storage, and networking boundaries.
• Proven ownership of production systems with observability and performance in mind.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement authentication and authorization services in C/C++.
• Integrate with external AAA services and wire protocols.
• Build low-latency, highly scalable authorization paths for storage workloads.
• Own features from requirements and design through testing, rollout, and production support.
• Debug complex production issues using traces, metrics, and logs.
• Improve observability, reliability, and maintainability of the system.
• Work on problems encountered by enterprise customers and AI infrastructure deployments.
