Job summary

Google Beam mirrors a breakthrough communication platform enabling lifelike conversations across distances using state-of-the-art 3D imaging and spatial audio. The role involves building Beam OS infrastructure, hardware integration, and scalable software design across cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates will bring strong experience in C++, Java, and Kotlin, with systems programming, Android platform familiarity, and proficiency in debugging low-level systems and networking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages such as C++, Java, or Kotlin.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture, specifically in systems programming or custom hardware-software integration.
• 2 years of experience with the Android Platform, Android Internals, or the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
• Experience with low-level system debugging, core operating systems concepts, and network configurations (including IP configurations, firewall rules, and ports exposed).

Responsibilities

• Write and test product or system development code (C++/Kotlin/Java) to control Beam custom hardware peripherals like cameras, displays, power, and thermal systems.
• Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies for Beam OS infrastructure, startup stability, and networking.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback for developer workflows.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality, owning local networking configurations, firewall rules, and exposed ports on the device.

• Experience developing accessible technologies and implementing Android accessibility standards.
