Job summary

Gusto in Denver seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the People Technology team. You will architect and hands‑on build PeopleOS, an AI-native HR platform, plus integrations across Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, and Google Workspace.

You’ll craft AI-powered tools and ensure secure data handling across HR systems. The role expects 7+ years of full‑stack experience, strong API skills, and a proven track record shipping internal tools with user feedback.

Qualifications

7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with production-quality work.
Strong experience building and consuming REST APIs with OAuth flows.
Ability to integrate SaaS platforms and AI/LLM API integration.
Experience shipping internal tools used by real end users and feedback loops.

Responsibilities

Own and build PeopleOS and internal HR tooling as a hands-on engineer.
Design, implement, and ship integrations across Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, Google Workspace.
Develop MCP servers for structured data access to HR systems.
Integrate Anthropic Claude and other AI tools to power internal workflows.
Document specs, participate in agile planning, and troubleshoot portfolio issues.
