Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the People Technology team as the architect and hands-on engineer behind PeopleOS — our AI-native internal HR platform — and the broader suite of custom tools and integrations that power our People tech ecosystem.

In this role, you will design, build, and ship software that directly shapes how every Gustie experiences HR, from recruiting and onboarding to performance and offboarding.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience.
• Production-quality work in Python or TypeScript/Node.js.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs (OAuth, pagination, error handling).
• Experience integrating SaaS platforms (Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, Google Workspace).
• Experience with AI/LLM API integration and prompt design.
• Strong written communication and API documentation.
• Understanding HR data sensitivity and data retention guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Own PeopleOS and internal HR tooling, shaping how Gustos experiences HR.
• Collaborate with People Ops to translate workflows into production software.
• Design, build, test, and maintain integrations across Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, and Google Workspace.
• Develop MCP servers for AI-powered access to People Systems data.
• Design prompts and AI-assisted workflows for People Ops use cases.
• Document integration specs and API details; participate in Jira planning and demos.
• Troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions across the portfolio.
