Job summary

Benchling, the AI platform for biotech R&D, seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the App Foundations group. You will own the Lab Notebook and Enterprise Lifecycle systems, shaping platform and product work for enterprise customers and ensuring data trust and compliance.

You will lead technically across teams, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional partners to deliver scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Technical lead on multi-engineer projects over multiple quarters.
• Backend systems and APIs for cloud-based web apps; React frontend + Python backend on Postgres.
• Design scalable, robust architectures for horizontal systems.
• Demonstrated ability to scope and drive cross-team initiatives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical authority for Lab Notebook and Enterprise Lifecycle teams.
• Architect and implement solutions across audit, review/approval, exports, backups, and lifecycle management.
• Lead large, multi-quarter initiatives with clear milestones and scalable design.
• Make strategic technical decisions balancing debt, platform capabilities, and future flexibility.
• Provide architectural guidance and mentorship across the Applications division.
• Collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Explore AI/LLMs to enhance data capture, auditing, and compliance workflows.
• Ensure horizontal systems integrate across teams and scale tooling, processes, and hiring.
