athenahealth in Boston seeks a Senior Software Engineer (Senior Associate) to design and build scalable, secure software powering athenaCollector's revenue cycle management features. Join athenahealth as a Senior Software Engineer at the Senior Associate level, where you will design and build scalable, secure, and maintainable software that powers athenaCollector’s revenue cycle management features. This role is based in Boston, MA as a hybrid position. The engineer will collaborate across product, design, and operations teams to deliver high-quality services and will report to the Senior Manager.
Team Summary In athenaCollector, we build technology solutions that automate Revenue Cycle Management (RCM). Our team focuses on implementing the essential medical back-office processes that automate and integrate the unique claims cycle requirements. By delivering scalable and reliable software, we help healthcare providers streamline billing and claims operations, improving financial outcomes and patient care. On this team you will work on services and user experiences that directly impact claims processing, billing, and client operations. You will help reduce manual work through automation, improve system observability and reliability, and deliver features that drive measurable business outcomes for provider clients. Collaboration with product managers, QA, SRE, and other engineering teams is central — you’ll participate in design discussions, code reviews, and delivery planning while mentoring more junior engineers and contributing to technical roadmaps.
Expected Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 4+ years of engineering experience in a product development organization. Solid experience developing backend services in Java and Spring Boot. Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, AWS EC2, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, GraphQL, and Camunda or similar technologies is desirable. Hands-on experience with ReactJS is a plus. Experience working in Agile development environments.
Expected Compensation $119,000 - $203,000 The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
