Job summary

Tempus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale high‑quality software systems powering AI‑enabled health data platforms. This role spans the stack, contributing to architecture and design, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable products and services.

You will design scalable web applications and backend services, plan and deliver new features end‑to‑end, write clean, tested code, and participate in code reviews and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• Professional-level knowledge of Python, TypeScript, or Java, as well as SQL.
• Professional-level experience in web application development.
• Demonstrated ability to build software that is scalable, maintainable, and high performing.
• Experience contributing to software design, system architecture, and technical documentation.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across distributed or multi-service systems.
• Experience writing automated tests across multiple layers of the application stack.
• Commitment to code quality, testing, and engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable web applications and backend services.
• Plan and deliver new services and features from front end to back end.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that performs reliably at scale.
• Contribute to and document thoughtful software design and architecture decisions.
• Improve code quality through meaningful code reviews and engineering best practices.
• Debug and resolve issues in existing systems, including problems spanning multiple services.
• Build and maintain automated data flows using pipelines and scripts.
• Write automated unit, integration, and system tests.
• Manually test code thoroughly, including edge cases and failure scenarios.
• Identify and address team-wide engineering challenges to elevate the broader team.
• Partner with cross-functional and adjacent teams to improve products and resolve issues.
