Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior software engineer to help build Airbyte's AI-powered Integration Factory. You will design systems that automatically generate, validate, repair, and maintain connectors, and develop tooling and workflows used across hundreds of integrations.

You will work with Java/Kotlin, distributed systems, and CI/CD pipelines, mentoring engineers and improving developer experience. On-call rotations and technical leadership are expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience in production systems.
• Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, BigQuery, Databricks, S3).
• Deep understanding of SQL, query optimization, and database internals.
• Experience with AI-assisted software development and AI components (embeddings, tools, evals).
• Experience building or operating distributed systems in production.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin (or another JVM language) and cross-language work.
• Experience building developer tooling, automation, CI/CD pipelines, or platform infrastructure.
• Strong debugging skills for production systems and on-call readiness.
• Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve Airbyte's AI-powered Integration Factory.
• Design intelligent systems to generate, validate, repair, and maintain connectors automatically.
• Develop tooling, GitHub Actions, workflows, and internal platforms used across hundreds of integrations.
• Build database connectors with CDC, replication logs, query optimization, and schema evolution.
• Improve reliability by auto-detecting and remediating production issues.
• Manage dependency updates, compatibility testing, release automation, and connector health.
• Contribute to Airbyte's AI Skills repository and establish AI-assisted software patterns.
• Drive engineering velocity through automation and reusable tooling.
• Participate in on-call rotation and improve systems to reduce operational burden.
• Collaborate to improve internal developer experience and platform capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and raise the engineering bar through design reviews and documentation.
