Job summary

Teamified seeks a senior backend engineer in Melbourne to ship production Django apps and shape scalable architecture. You will own core backend services, from design to deployment, working closely with Head of Engineering and Product.

You’ll implement robust testing, security best practices, and leverage Docker/Kubernetes with CI/CD while collaborating with cross-functional teams across fintech domains.

Qualifications

6+ years of backend engineering experience.
Deep Django knowledge: ORM, migrations, DRF, async tasks.
Strong relational data modelling and PostgreSQL.
Testing mindset with coverage focus.
Experience shipping on cloud infra with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD.
Security instincts: auth & authorization with providers like Auth0/Okta.
Ownership from design to production and accountability.
Clear written and verbal communication with Product/non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Design, build and own backend services powering web portal, mobile app, and white-label environments.
Work on payments core: issuing, spend controls, transactions, webhooks.
Enhance features and integrate workflow improvements across platform.
Leverage AI tooling to ship AI-powered features.

About Our Client

Our client is an Australian FinTech company that provides a platform for business credit cards and spend management. In essence,they offer a modern alternative to traditional corporate cards, designed to simplify spending for businesses, save time and money on financial administration, and give businesses greater control and visibility over their expenses. Their key services include providing Mastercard-powered credit cards to businesses, which can be issued to employees, and a spend management platform that allows businesses to track spending in real-time, capture receipts, categorize expenses, and automate reconciliation with accounting software. Our client also enables employees to use a mobile app to upload receipts and add notes, streamlining the expense reporting process. Notably, our client does not charge any foreign transaction fee mark-ups and integrates with popular accounting software like Xero and SAP Concur. Additionally, our client provides controls and oversight features, allowing businesses to set spending limits, and lock or freeze cards. Our client’s users can also earn Velocity Points on eligible spending.

About the Role

This is a hands-on senior role in a small team. You’ll ship production code in your first week, then help shape how we build cleaner architecture, real test coverage, safer deployments and AI-assisted engineering workflows. You’ll work closely with our Head of Engineering and Product, and be based in Melbourne Australia.

We believe working closely with stakeholders and customers is key to engineering & product success so our client’s engineering team works closely alongside the commercial and product teams, to build a ground breaking technology platform.

What you’ll do day-to-day

Design, build and own backend services in Django and Django REST Framework that power our web portal, mobile app and white-label environments.

Work on the payments core: card issuing and lifecycle, spend controls, transaction handling and webhooks from our 3rd party partners.

Build and harden existing features and integrate further workflow enhancements across the platform.

Leverage AI tooling and ship AI-powered product features.

Lead technical design: write design docs and ADRs, run decomposition sessions and help simplify the architecture.

Raise the engineering bar: grow test coverage & robustness, contribute to the engineering ways of working and the SDLC/AI-DLC.

Own production quality: monitoring and alerting in Datadog, incident response and an on-call rotation that meets enterprise SLAs.

Review code, mentor engineers and help raise the bar on AI tooling in everyday development.

6+ years of backend engineering, with several years building and running production Django applications.

Deep Django knowledge including the ORM, migrations, permissions, DRF and async/background task patterns.

Strong relational data modelling and PostgreSQL skills.

A testing mindset: you write test suites as a matter of course and know how to bring testing patterns and the right level of coverage to an existing codebase.
