Job summary

Applied Research Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to leverage broad software engineering knowledge to support the acquisition process, with required AI experience and SAP screening for security clearance.

The ACME program aims to modernize classification management for JADC2 relevance, applying AI-enabled automation across DoD data workflows and agile development practices in a secure environment.

Qualifications

• US citizen with Top Secret/SCI eligibility and SAP screening.
• Advanced Electrical Engineering degree (MA/MS) or BA/BS with DoD/aircraft systems experience.
• 12+ years (or 15+) of DoD-related engineering experience with relevant certifications.

Responsibilities

• Review program portfolio to evaluate/advise on alternative plans and improve software programs.
• Perform program reviews to verify design, tests and subsystem performance against specs.
• Prepare technical documents detailing system/subsystem characteristics and analyses.
• Validate systems with criteria and procedures; evaluate engineering results.
• Provide engineering support, training, and lifecycle oversight for acquisition and deployment.
• Contribute to program risk management per Air Force SEAM processes.
• Conduct gap analysis, trade studies, and design roadmaps; participate in multidisciplinary work.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Applied Research Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Engineer. The Senior Software Engineer shall perform work that applies a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of software engineering to support the acquisition process. This role will also require experience in artificial intelligence and requires employee pass background screening for SAP.

The Automated Classification Management Environment (ACME) is a program initiated by the Air Force to modernize the classification management system. The current manual classification infrastructure limits the Department of War's ability to share data efficiently, which is crucial for Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) operations.

The ACME program aims to manage the lifecycle of classification and declassification in accordance with Executive Order 13526 and relevant policies, transitioning from a fragmented manual system to an AI-driven automated solution.

The ACME program will involve several key tasks:

• Transitioning from a manual classification framework to an AI-driven automated enterprise solution.
• Managing the lifecycle of classified national security information, including original classification, declassification, and releasability processes.
• Addressing challenges such as financial strain due to lack of interoperability, static guidance leading to errors, a backlog of records awaiting review, and high error rates in derivative classifications.
• Implementing machine-readable data infrastructure and AI tools for automation across various classification levels (Unclassified, CUI, Confidential, Secret, Top Secret, SCI).
• Engaging in agile development methodologies for rapid prototyping and integration of new capabilities.

Responsibilities Include

The individual shall be able to:

• Conduct reviews on program portfolio to evaluate and/or recommend alternative plans, improve software engineering programs/processes, manage/sustain program technical baseline, and design/perform software level tests to assure that subsystems and system performance is achieved in accordance with approved specifications.
• Perform program reviews to evaluate alternative proposed plans, software engineering programs, design, and test results to assure that subsystem and system performance is achieved in accordance with program specifications.
• Prepare technical documents which define, specify, and recommend system/subsystem characteristics. Prepare management reports and conduct technical presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective action using application of engineering economy principles.
• Perform validation of systems, including development of criteria and procedures. Analyze and/or evaluate results of major engineering systems.
• Provide system/program engineering, technical support and technical training to support programs/initiatives, including but not limited to acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight.
• Provide engineering support services and inputs to program and project risk management activities in compliance with Air Force SEAM processes.
• Capable of performing problem/gap definition, trade space analysis, science and technology roadmap analysis, "Set based design" for concept development, Multi-Objective Decision Analysis (MODA) and cost versus capability trade off analysis.

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements

• Must be a US citizen
• Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility
• Must pass SAP Screening
• Advanced Electrical Engineering degree (MA/MS) and 12 years of experience in aircraft systems, of which 5 years must be in the DoD,OR a BA/BS degree and 15 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, of which 5 year must be in the DoD with aircraft systems, or 20 years of directly related experience with proper certifications as described in the Functionally Aligned Job Descriptions, of which 8 year must be in the DoD with aircraft systems.

The expected annual salary range: $170k - $190k. Salary is dependent upon the role and associated responsibilities, candidate's experience, and qualifications to include education/training, and key skills.
