Job summary

Jobtailor in Palo Alto seeks an experienced automation engineer to design, build, and maintain Python-based frameworks for hardware test benches and to optimize CI/CD pipelines for rapid testing cycles.

You will assemble and configure systems, administer Linux environments, and triage failures across software, network, and hardware layers while collaborating with firmware and software teams to scale our test infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Python automation experience in scripting or hardware interaction.
• Proficient in Linux shell scripting, permissions, and package management.
• Hands-on hardware assembly or maintenance experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot across software, network, and hardware under time pressure.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with system monitoring and observability in Linux.

Job description

1. Design, build, and maintain Python-based automation frameworks to control and monitor hardware test benches
2. Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI to support continuous testing and rapid deployment cycles
3. Physically assemble, configure, and maintain computer systems and hardware test rigs, including component selection and setup
4. Administer Linux-based test environments, ensuring systems are configured, patched, and tuned for reliable performance
5. Serve as first responder for test bench failures and triage whether the root cause is a software bug, network issue, or hardware fault
6. Collaborate with test engineers and firmware/software teams to define automation requirements and integrate new hardware into the test infrastructure
7. Monitor system health and pipeline performance, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks or recurring failure patterns
8. Document automation tooling, bench configurations, and troubleshooting procedures
9. Develop technology for electric vehicles, including operating systems, zonal controllers, cloud, and connectivity solutions

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience writing Python for automation, scripting, or hardware/CLI interaction
• Experience working in Linux environments, including shell scripting, file permissions, and package management
• Hands-on experience assembling or maintaining physical computer hardware
• Ability to troubleshoot and isolate root causes across software, network, and hardware layers under time pressure
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions
• Familiarity with system monitoring and observability tooling in Linux environments
• Experience building or maintaining hardware test benches or lab infrastructure in a QA or engineering context
• Exposure to network troubleshooting, including basic packet capture, routing, and connectivity diagnostics
• Experience working cross-functionally with firmware, software, or DevOps teams in a fast-paced test environment
• Current authorization to work for an employer in the United States
