Job summary

Swoon is seeking an experienced Senior Test Automation Engineer in Chicago to own test strategies and mentor teams. You will design and maintain automated tests for web applications, APIs, and infrastructure, integrating with CI/CD pipelines.

The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration with product owners, and adherence to quality standards. The ideal candidate has 8–10+ years in software testing and hands-on experience with Java, Cucumber, JBehave, REST APIs, and JMeter.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8–10+ years of relevant software testing and test automation experience.
• At least 8 years of experience designing and developing test automation frameworks.
• Strong design and development experience in Java, Cucumber, and JBehave or other BDD testing frameworks.
• Strong experience testing web services and REST APIs.
• Proven ability to develop test scripts, test cases, and test data.
• Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases.
• 3+ years of experience developing scenario-based performance testing using JMeter.
• Experience with full-stack testing and third-party integration testing.
• End-to-end system integration testing experience across software platforms.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of understanding business requirements and acceptance criteria to develop test strategies and plans.

• Design, develop, and maintain API test automation frameworks to support automated scripting, execution, and analysis of test results.

• Perform exploratory and manual testing of software products when necessary.
• Lead and mentor test engineers across multiple applications and projects, including onshore and offshore teams.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong design and development experience in two or more of the following technologies:
• Java (3–5 years)
• Cucumber (3–5 years)
• JBehave or other Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) testing frameworks.
• Strong experience testing web services and REST APIs.
• Proven ability to develop test scripts, test cases, and test data.
• Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases.
• 3+ years of experience developing scenario-based performance testing using JMeter.
• Experience with full-stack testing and third-party integration testing.
• End-to-end system integration testing experience across software platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Python.
• Development experience within AWS Cloud environments.
• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration, and code review practices.
• Experience with Apigee or other API gateway technologies.
• Familiarity with DevOps concepts and tools, including CI/CD, Jenkins, and Git.
• At least 2 years of experience working within Agile teams.
• Understanding of Agile/Lean methodologies.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture.
