Sun Communities is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design and maintain high-performance cloud applications on AWS, leveraging AI-driven tools to enhance development and performance. You will mentor peers, drive architectural decisions, and align technical solutions with business goals from Metro Detroit, Michigan.
The role requires extensive backend experience, API integration, and hands-on IaC with CloudFormation or Terraform.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 5 years experience as Backend/Software Developer or equivalent.
- 1 year experience with SOAP/REST APIs.
- 1 year experience building scalable microservices.
- 2+ years in AI-driven development.
Responsibilities
- Design and build high-performance cloud-based applications on AWS.
- Identify bugs and align with requirements during debugging.
- Oversee complex features and designs for intricate solutions.
- Leverage AI-driven tools to accelerate development and optimize performance.

- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure AWS environments meet functionality/performance needs.

- Participate in team technical architecture reviews.

The Senior Software Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining high-performance applications primarily on the AWS platform, leveraging AI-driven tools and technologies to accelerate development, enhance code quality, and optimize application performance. This role requires a deep understanding of software architecture, modern development frameworks, cloud-native design patterns, and emerging AI/ML capabilities to deliver secure, scalable, and intelligent solutions. As a senior member of the team, the Senior Developer provides technical leadership, mentors and supports other developers in adopting AI-augmented development practices, and promotes best practices in coding standards, software design, and agile methodologies. The Senior Software Developer works closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation through the strategic integration of AI, improve system performance, and ensure alignment between technical solutions and business objectives.

- Follow established best practices and data governance procedures in development and integration of applications.
- Identify and articulate design considerations, trade-offs, benefits, and recommendations for technical architecture.
- Participate in team technical architecture review sessions.
- Write infrastructure as code using CloudFormation, Terraform, or similar.
- Write high-quality unit tests capable of running in automated fashion and in isolation.

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Required)
- 5 years in experience as a Backend Developer, Software Developer, Software Engineer or equivalent (Required)
- 1 year in experience creating and integrating with SOAP and REST APIs (Required)
- 1 year in experience creating reusable, effective, and scalable micro service-based applications (Required)2 years in experience with AI-driven development (Required)
- Ability to troubleshoot distributed systems
- Enterprise-level understanding of cloud-based applications and services on the AWS platform
- Excellent research and analytical skills and ability to translate user's stated business needs into meaningful business solutions
- Knowledge of Application Performance Monitoring
- Knowledge of writing infrastructure as code (IaC) using CloudFormation or Terraform
- Working knowledge of serverless architectures using AWS Lambda or Azure Functions
- Working knowledge of event-driven architecture using SQS, Service Bus, RabbitMQ, etc.
- Working knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, SOLID design, build processes and automated testing.
- Professional proficiency in SQL and NoSQL
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Thorough understanding of AI/ML capabilities
