UNITE HERE in New York seeks a Senior Software Developer to build and support tools for campaigns. This is an intermediate to senior role for full-stack or back-end developers who lead teams and care about solid engineering practices in a mission-driven union environment.

You will collaborate across the technology group, develop new features, review code, plan roadmaps, and ensure high-quality releases while advancing social justice objectives.

Formación

• Degree in information technology or computer science, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years relevant development experience.
• Experience with a varied set of three or more technologies from Front-end, Back-end, and Platforms & infrastructure.

UNITE HERE (www.unitehere.org) is a progressive, member-driven, not-for-profit union, dedicated to organizing workers in the hospitality industry to lift workplace standards in hotels, casinos, airports, and cafeterias across the United States and Canada. You will be part of a team that empowers workers - primarily women and people of color - in low-wage service sector jobs to achieve better wages, benefits, dignity, and rights at work.

Summary: The Senior Software Developer is an intermediate-level role for a full-stack or back-end developer who has demonstrated team leadership and is firmly grounded in good technology practices. The Senior Software Developer will be a partner in developing the individual and team spaces, as well as helping create, upgrade, and support a range of tools and technologies used by the Union. We are in the process of taking increasing control over our technology rather than relying heavily on 3rd parties for software development.

Job Responsibilities In the support, maintenance, and new development of software:

• Develop new features, enhance existing features, upgrade packages, improve supportability, and fix or troubleshoot on UNITE HERE’s software suite

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

• Motivation to work for economic and social justice
• Demonstrated team leadership in new app development, enhancing existing apps, or making back-end upgrades. Please prominently list this in your resume, highlight in your cover letter.
• Degree in information technology or computer science, or equivalent experience
• Extensive knowledge of software development and its technologies (excluding web design)
• 7+ years relevant development experience
• Knowledge of/experience with a varied set of three or more of these technologies:
  • Front-end & mobile development – Angular, Typescript, HTML/CSS
  • Back-end development – Python, Ruby, Postgres SQL
  • Platforms and infrastructure – Azure, AWS, Linux; Docker; Terraform; Azure DevOps, GitHub
• Knowledge of agile development practices
• Expectation of participation of core Union activities

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000, or commensurate with experience
