Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) Consultant with extensive expertise in managing enterprise-wide software assets, software licensing compliance, optimization, vendor negotiations, and IT asset governance. The ideal candidate will lead SAM strategy, establish governance frameworks, drive software optimization initiatives, ensure license compliance, and provide advisory services to stakeholders across IT, Procurement, Finance, Security, and Business units.
The consultant will possess deep knowledge of major software vendors including Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, SAP, Adobe, VMware, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Red Hat, and other enterprise software providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement enterprise Software Asset Management strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Establish SAM governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Define software lifecycle management processes covering procurement, deployment, usage, maintenance, renewal, and retirement.
- Drive SAM maturity assessments and roadmap development.
- Ensure alignment with ITIL, ISO 19770, COBIT, and organizational governance frameworks.
License Compliance Management
- Lead software license compliance assessments and internal audits.
- Manage vendor audits and mitigate audit risks.
- Interpret complex licensing agreements and entitlement terms.
- Identify compliance gaps and develop remediation plans.
- Ensure software deployments remain compliant with contractual obligations.
Software Optimization & Cost Management
- Analyze software consumption and utilization patterns.
- Identify opportunities for software rationalization and license optimization.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives through re-harvesting, reallocation, and right-sizing activities.
- Develop software demand forecasting and budget planning models.
- Reduce software spend while maintaining business requirements.
- Collaborate with procurement teams on software contract negotiations.
- Review Enterprise Agreements (EA), Oracle ULA, IBM Passport Advantage, SAP agreements, and cloud subscriptions.
- Manage software renewals and true-up processes.
- Establish vendor management strategies and governance.
IT Asset Lifecycle Management
- Manage software asset lifecycle from request through retirement.
- Ensure integration between SAM, ITSM, Procurement, CMDB, and Discovery tools.
- Maintain software catalog and entitlement repositories.
- Implement software normalization and reconciliation processes.
- Prepare organizations for software vendor audits
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of IT industry experience.
- 10+ years of Software Asset Management experience.
- Strong understanding of ITIL processes.
- Experience supporting software audits from major vendors.
- Strong financial, analytical, and contractual review skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
