Innovative Custom Builders, based on the San Francisco Peninsula, seeks a Senior Site Superintendent to lead field operations on complex high-end custom residential projects. You will guide crews, coordinate subcontractors and project teams, and ensure timely moves from phase to phase, maintaining stringent craftsmanship and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a decade of hands-on construction experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and deep knowledge of building systems.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of framing, structural systems, waterproofing, building envelope, MEP coordination, finishes and site work.

The Opportunity

Innovative Custom Builders is seeking an experienced Senior Site Superintendent to lead field operations on complex, high-end custom residential projects throughout the San Francisco Peninsula. This is a senior field leadership role for someone who has spent their career building custom homes, understands how projects come together from the ground up, and can anticipate construction issues before they become problems.

Our projects are highly detailed, technically complex, and built for sophisticated clients in some of the Bay Area’s most demanding residential markets. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on construction knowledge, strong leadership skills, and the confidence to guide crews, subcontractors, and project teams through every phase of construction.

This is not a working-superintendent position. Your primary responsibility is to lead, coordinate, forecast, communicate, and keep the job moving.

What You’ll Do

• Lead day-to-day field operations for high-end custom residential projects.
• Manage multiple active projects when project size and workload allow.
• Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
• Maintain a strong understanding of upcoming project needs and proactively prepare for future phases of work.
• Review plans, specifications, and field conditions to identify potential conflicts before they affect schedule or cost.
• Coordinate site logistics, material deliveries, access, sequencing, inspections, and subcontractor activities.
• Maintain exceptional standards for craftsmanship, quality control, organization, and jobsite safety.
• Work closely with Project Managers to ensure field execution aligns with project planning, procurement, and client expectations.
• Support and collaborate with other Site Superintendents across active projects.
• Provide technical guidance to field teams and help resolve construction challenges efficiently.
• Maintain clear documentation and project updates through Buildertrend and other company systems.
• Communicate professionally with homeowners, architects, designers, engineers, and consultants when needed.
• Help mentor and support less-experienced field leaders as part of the company’s broader superintendent team.
• Maintain accurate short-term look-ahead planning and keep crews prepared for upcoming work.

What We’re Looking For

• 10 years of relevant construction field experience.
• Extensive experience with high-end custom residential construction.
• Proven ability to manage complex residential projects from early construction through completion.
• Strong practical construction knowledge across framing, structural systems, waterproofing, building envelope, MEP coordination, finishes, and site work.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and consultant drawings.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and the ability to anticipate what trades and crews will need before they arrive onsite.
• Experience supervising subcontractors and in-house field teams.
• Strong quality-control mindset with attention to high-end finishes and details.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable using project-management software and maintaining organized field documentation.
• Ability to operate independently while collaborating closely with Project Managers and company leadership.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between active project sites.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience building luxury custom homes in the San Francisco Bay Area or Peninsula.
• Experience managing projects in the 4M–12M range.
• Familiarity with Bay Area permitting, inspections, construction practices, and subcontractor networks.
• Buildertrend experience.
• Experience leading or mentoring other Superintendents.
• Spanish-language skills are a plus, but not required.
