Job summary

Apple, Inc. in Austin, TX is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join the Retail and Marcom Engineering group. You will help ensure reliability of production systems, automate infrastructure, and scale across cloud and on‑prem environments.

You will own monitoring, incident response, capacity planning, and runbooks, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to improve observability and prevent outages. Experience with Kubernetes, IaC, Python or Go, and cloud platforms is essential.

Qualifications

• 3 years hands-on experience as a systems, storage or cloud engineer
• Knowledge of Linux (OEL, RHEL, CentOS) utilities and programs
• Expertise in version control systems (Git, SVN), automated build and testing (Jenkins, Vagrant)
• Expertise in Kubernetes platform, on-premise or Cloud
• Expertise with at least one cloud infrastructure platform (AWS, GCP)
• Understanding of enterprise storage platforms (NetApp, Isilon, Object Storage, etc.)
• Experience with configuration management (e.g. Puppet, Ansible)
• Understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM)
• Experience automating workflows with Python or Go
• Knowledge of networking technologies including IPv4/IPv6, DNS, network segmentation, etc.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the health, performance, and availability of production systems, and respond to alerts to maintain agreed SLOs/SLAs
• Participate in on-call rotations, acting as a first responder to production incidents — triaging, diagnosing, and resolving issues across the full stack (infrastructure, backend services, and client-side/front-end).
• Design, build, and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant systems across on-premise and cloud environments (AWS/GCP), incorporating redundancy and failover best practices.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform)
• Develop and maintain operational tooling and automation scripts in Python or Go to streamline workflows, improve observability, and reduce repetitive manual work
• Administer and optimize Kubernetes clusters and container orchestration for scalability, resilience, and efficient resource utilization
• Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning — analyzing traffic patterns, resource utilization, and application behavior to proactively scale systems ahead of demand
• Perform root cause analysis on incidents and participate in postmortems, translating findings into concrete reliability improvements and preventive automation
• Document system architecture, runbooks, and operational procedures clearly for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Contribute to the ongoing evolution of reliability practices and infrastructure automation standards across multi-platform cloud and on-premise environments
