Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources seeks a NR Forestry Specialist Senior - Silviculture in Cloquet, MN. You will lead field management, budgeting, and program planning for forestry projects, coordinating with multiple partners to meet annual targets.

Minimum qualifications include a BS in Forest Science/Management or SAF Forester status, and leadership experience in forest management or timber sales.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Forest Science/Management or SAF Certified Forester status.
• Two years journey-level forest management with leadership experience, or three years in entry-level management with timber sale experience.
• Knowledge of forest management theory to lead field activities and manage contractors.
• Ability to follow state policies and write technical specifications for contract work.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and administer Forestry programs at the Area level to meet targets and policies.
• Coordinate annual tree planting, seeding, and site preparation with contract crews.
• Write silvicultural stand prescriptions meeting objectives and plan directions.
• Collaborate with divisions, tribes, counties and partners to align goals.
• Plan releases and timber stand improvements and conduct regeneration surveys.
• Coordinate seed collection and track silviculture progress toward targets.
• Develop and manage budgets for assigned programs and ensure cost effectiveness.
• Ensure staff and contractors stay proficient in Silviculture practices.
