Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Cloquet, MN is seeking a NR Forestry Specialist Senior - Silviculture to lead and implement major forestry programs at the Area level. The role drives planning, budgeting, and coordination with contractors and partners to meet silvicultural targets.

You will oversee stand prescriptions, forest regeneration, seed collection, and contract administration, collaborating across divisions to advance Forest Resources Plan goals and ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Forest Science/Management or SAF status.
• Two years journey-level forest management with leadership experience or three years entry-level with timber sale experience.
• Knowledge of forest management theory and field program leadership.
• Knowledge of division policies for contract administration and program activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage forestry programs at Area level and ensure policy compliance.
• Coordinate annual tree planting, seeding, site prep with contract crews.
• Write silvicultural stand prescriptions meeting objectives and plan directions.
• Collaborate with other divisions, tribes, counties and partners on management goals.
• Plan release and crop tree improvement treatments and conduct regeneration surveys.
• Coordinate seed/cone collection with State Forest Nursery and track progress.
• Develop and manage program budgets and ensure cost effectiveness.
• Develop and coordinate management policies and plans.
