Job summary

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Blackduck, MN seeks an Intermediate Forester to perform forest resource management and administer forestry sub-programs under limited supervision.

The Forestry Specialist Intermediate will input forest data with GIS/ArcGIS, participate in wildfire prevention and suppression, and engage with community outreach while coordinating with Area and State staff. Normal hours Mon-Fri, travel required.

Qualifications

• 3 years (36 months) forestry fieldwork in specified areas.
• 2 years plus 1 year lead worker duties can substitute.
• Associate’s degree may substitute 6 months fieldwork.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute 1 year fieldwork.
• Ability to obtain NWCG FFT2 within 6 months of hire.
• Planning and leadership skills to manage forestry sub-programs.

Responsibilities

• Administer Fire Prevention Sub-program tasks in the area.
• Direct Invasive Species Sub-program tasks locally.
• Input forest data using GIS/ArcGIS and manage databases.
• Engage in wildfire prevention and suppression activities.
• Provide fire training to foresters and emergency crews.
• Coordinate outreach to promote sustainable forestry.
