Job summary

Santa Fe County is seeking a skilled Signs and Traffic Technician to install, inspect, and fabricate traffic signs per MUTCD. The role includes preparing surfaces, cutting materials, and setting up sign installations with proper traffic control.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, two years of related experience, and certifications in traffic control. This on-site position requires physical stamina and driving credentials to support field operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years' maintenance and operations experience or related field.
• ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification within 6 months of hire.
• IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Technician and Signs and Markings Level I within 1 year of hire.
• OSHA and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, or obtain within 6 months of hire (training provided).
• Valid New Mexico Class D driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Designs, cuts, lays out and installs signs per MUTCD; prepares materials and surfaces for fabrication and installation.
• Operates fabrication machines and tools; maintains and repairs tools and equipment.
• Inspects signs/markings for visibility; sets up work zones and performs traffic control.
• Collects GPS data for traffic devices and inputs into the system.
• Orders supplies, maintains inventories, and logs daily work activities.
